Cushendall to Whitehead - Northern Ireland
Another day and another day trip, we picked up were we left off last tine in NI and drove south. A very beautiful drive along the coast with some beautiful cliffs and nice little harbours. We closed the day of in Portaferry.
Dungarvan to Roche Point
Another day trip to the south of Ireland, we went from Dungarvan where we had left of to Roche Point which is close to Cork. It was a beautiful day and it was very quiet everywhere now that the holidays are over. Some great beaches, ports and towns. Ireland at it’s best (so far)
Northern Ireland - Ardglass to Bangor
Yesterday we went to Northern Ireland again picking up where we left off after our last trip in county Down. We started in the harbour of Ardglass and then tracked the coast up to Bangor and drove down again along the Strangford Lough.
Great trip though the northern part of the coast gets progressively less interesting as you near Bangor. We took the ferry between Strangford and Portaferry where we found bags full of seaglass and pottery shards.
On the way back we drove down the Lough where we went to the ruins of a 6th century monastery on the top of a hill on an island.
Howth Dublin Bay Prawn Festival
Today we wanted to go to the Dublin Bay Festival in Howth. Unfortunately we hit a traffic jam into Howth so we went by train for the last bit. It’s been quite some tiime since I was in a train.
The festival was basically one tent with varieties of prawns prepared in different ways and a carnival. We had some great barbecued prawns in bisque.
Then we walked around a bit and took a ride in the ferris wheel. I had a slight bout of vertigo and didn’t enjoy it much. (although she denies it I think J was laughing at me).
Arklow to Wexford(ish)
Wifey and I continued our discovery of the Irish coast today. We still had a gap between Arklow and Waterford. Unfortunately I slept a bit too late (again) so we couldn’t finish it entirely and had to turn back around Blackwater.
It was a lovely day with mostly clear blue skies. Went too a lot of beaches and found some cool old ruins of a farm along the way. Nothing to dramatic in the sense of views here just some nice beaches and scenery as you would expect in Ireland.
